Susan Miller

I was mentally and physically exhausted, I was entering the empty nest phase of life, my glass was half empty, I was avoiding people and mirrors. I was merely existing. I was on three prescription
medications, one for high blood pressure, one for off the chart triglycerides and one for high cholesterol
and I was 100 pounds overweight. I was broken and honestly, I was not even aware of how broken I
was. I was miserable.
My son joined the U.S. Airforce and I found an amazing support group of other parents who were
mourning the void created by their child’s enlistment. As parents, mostly moms, we publicly committed
to do the workouts our children were doing in basic training. Reluctantly, I joined my first Biggest Loser
and my promise to my son, forced me to go to the gym. I was blessed to have Missy and Stephanie as
BL Coaches and they included me in team workouts, checked in on me and my reluctance quickly turned
into my favorite time of the day.
As my physical health improved, so did my mental health, including my self-confidence. Each time I
wanted to stop, I would remember Rhett and my promise to him and I kept working. We attended
Rhett’s graduation from basic training and he had not seen me in over eight weeks. His first words to
me were, “Mom, you are beautiful!”. I still tear up every time I think about that moment.
Without my gym family, I would not have had that moment with Rhett nor would I be doing all things I
do today. I cannot emphasize enough how much the gym has become part of my family and is my
never-ending support system. I tell people the gym is my only prescription medication!
I no longer take any prescriptions medications, I have loss over 100 pounds, (managed to keep most of it
off!), I have run several 5Ks and a half marathon. I rode my bike 1,990 miles last year, I am a Biggest
Loser Coach, I recently became a Spin Instructor; while all of those things are a direct result from my
time at Everbody’s, the greatest impact on my life the gym has had is my mental health, my overall
happiness, my high energy level (probably irritating to some!), my self-confidence and the unconditional
friendships that I have formed. My social life is the gym!
If your life puzzle is incomplete, I promise, Everbody’s has your missing puzzle piece. Your gym family is
here to support you like they supported me and they fixed what was broken.
