Jamie KrzykowskiMy "true" weight loss journey started in the fall of 2013. I had found myself in a place I really never thought I would be....overweight, depressed and hopeless as to how to change it. I had gained a considerable amount of weight with my first child in 2002 but with diet and exercise I managed to lose most of my weight gain. Unfortunately, 4 years later after having my second child, I was not as successful. Not only did I have difficulty losing the weight, I was newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
For several years I sought different treatments for the multiple symptoms and changes in my health that were occurring. I found myself on over 10 different medications. I ate ibuprofen like candy and still hurt all the time. My only relief seemed to be sleep. Eat, work and sleep seemed to be the theme. I had gained over 100 lbs in 10 years. Honestly, I had given up. I managed to make it to my job and the boys functions but otherwise, I really didn't want to do anything. It was exhausting smiling on the outside knowing how I truly felt on the inside. One day in the fall of 2013, my son brought home a picture he had drawn at school. In the drawing, he was playing baseball with his Dad and brother. I asked him where I was? He pointed to a small chair and said "there you are, sleeping in your chair". So honest. Talk about a wake up call. I was heartbroken and knew I had to make changes. First thing I did was change neurologists. On my first appointment, he let me know I was not overweight...I was obese. He also let me know if I didn't get moving I would find myself with less and less abilities. He suggested I join a gym. After pouting for a bit, I took a leap of faith. Several of my friends were having great success with the Biggest Loser program. I started paying attention and following their journeys on Facebook. Could I do it too? I hadn't done anything in so long. In January of 2014, after driving around the block about 3 times, I walked through the doors at EverBody's and signed up for my first biggest loser. I was full of fear but it was life changing. I had great success with my first go around. I was tired but I was inspired. And it was only the beginning for me. I have now completed 5 Biggest Losers and managed to keep 50+lbs off for the last several years. My neurologist was amazed at my success and I now only take 2 medications for my MS. I rarely nap, although occasionally it's still necessary. I have learned to manage my symptoms and credit much of it to diet, exercise and the positive energy EverBody's provides. I still have progress to make and I'm happy to do it. I'm happy I can. I truly can't express how much I love my life today or how grateful I am to the Biggest Loser program, EverBody's and all my friends/family/teammates/coaches who have helped get me here today. -Jamie Krzykowski |
